Melon Basket Weaving Workshop

10 Tickets left

Spend a relaxed and meditative day learning the ancient art of basket weaving and create your very own melon basket from all natural materials. These baskets are common in many different cultures throughout the world, and involve creating two hoops (a handle and rim), adding ‘ribs’, and weaving from both ends of the basket into the middle.

During the workshop, you will also learn all about the harvesting and preparation of natural materials.

Whats Included:

All materials and tuition are included. You will complete your own melon basket, which you will take home with you. Tea and coffee are also provided.

This is the perfect workshop for a little escapism!

Sometimes, its good to just relax and build something beautiful with your own hands.

Branching Out is a collaboration between sister’s Jillian Culey and Carolyn Dance. It is devoted to handmade, fair trade and sustainable creations. Jillian works predominantly with locally harvested fibres and  experiments with traditional basketry techniques including twining, string making and ribbed work. For Jillian, weaving is an opportunity to explore the connection between mathematical patterns and nature and her woven pieces take their inspiration from that connection.

What to Bring:

As this workshop is running for 6 hours - we would advise you to bring along some lunch and snacks. You are welcome to bring along some nibbles and even your fave vino to sip whilst you create your masterpieces! ( We can supply the glassware and wooden serving boards for you.

Price includes all Materials

Duration of Workshop: Approx 6 hours

See you at The Creative Fringe!
